From Olympiads to engineering, mathematics has grown with me from solving geometry puzzles to solving global issues. It has given me new ways to see the world, through data, science, technology, and design.

Mathematics for Health
As I grew up, my passion for mathematics evolved into solving problems in my local community.
I utilized Bayesian statistics to create an affordable yet reliable breast cancer early detection system for under-resourced communities. Currently achieving 93% accuracy.
Mathematics for Food Security
Fish in modern Vietnamese aquaculture systems mentally suffer from water toxicity and predators like cats, leading to unhealthy breeds and subsequently lower market sales for fish farmers.
I created a device that integrates mathematics with engineering and computer vision, enabling fish farmers to track fish health through a smartphone. Wrapped up two completed versions and currently working on the third one.

A light trail going across the bottom of the pond. This product acts as a source of entertainment for carp to minimize stress.
However, I realized that the fish became even MORE stressed, as erratic lighting leads to discomfort and ultimately uncontrollable behavior. Furthermore, lights don’t chase away cats, the fish main source of fear. I’ll need a second version.
Combining these two areas, my current project: Fish ‘n’ Chips
Fish health problems in modern aquaculture can escalate rapidly, causing mass mortality, economic losses for farmers, and reduced food security when early signs of fish illness go undetected. This is a solution to tackle Vietnam’s current aquaculture crisis. A way for me to give back to the local community I love and cherish.

I am developing a prototype that utilizes computer vision to detect abnormal swimming patterns and help farmers identify stress or illness earlier.
Beyond aquaculture, I hope the technology can eventually support marine-ecosystem monitoring and conservation by providing a scalable, non-invasive way to study animal behavior and detect environmental changes.

I attached motion sensors on the backs of carp to track their movements in three-dimension, using changes in swimming patterns to infer stress and alert farmers to threats such as approaching cats.
Because the sensors provide movement data without directly revealing the fish’s physical condition (which leads to misleading data), I saw the need for a third-generation system combining motion tracking with computer vision for a more reliable fish health evaluation.
